Staying at home this summer?

Well fear not because the Caribbean is coming to Bath.

The team behind Bath on Ice is bringing a summer version of the hugely popular winter attraction with its new creation Bath on the Beach.

The event will be held in the same spot of Royal Victoria Park, off Royal Avenue after the park entrance near Queen Square.

Visitors will have the chance to lie in a hammock beneath palm trees, play a spot of beach volleyball with friends and sip summer cocktails.

There’ll be servings of fresh Mexican food, ice cream, picnic tables and deck chairs.

Games such as tennis and table tennis, boules, adventure golf and yoga will also be available.

Director Simon Smith said: “We wanted to offer Bath something a little different this summer and we felt that a Caribbean beach venue would be the perfect way for people to relax with friends, stay active outdoors, play games and have fun.

“It’s something a little different to our Christmas ice rink and we’re really looking forward to opening.

“Our favourite part of Bath on Ice is bringing together families and friends for a fun time, and we’re looking to recreate this in an exotic summer setting.”

The organisers believe the beach volleyball will be the ‘centrepiece’ of the attraction.

“We’ve been wanting to do something during the summer months because we want a bit of a break from working in arctic conditions and do something more summer-orientated,” they said.

“We’re all very sporty, active, outdoorsy people so we’re just playing to our strengths, interests and enthusiasm.

“We want to provide a space for residents and tourists to hang out or meet up with family and come out and enjoy themselves.”

Mr Smith said the volleyball should be pre-booked but all other games will be available to hire at the venue.

Bath on the Beach opens on Saturday, July 21 and will run until September from 10am to 10pm.

There’s parking nearby.
