THE EGG

The egg is the award-winning theatre for children, young people and their families where, at the end of August, 40 local young people from the Theatre School Summer Company will present VANITY FAIR. This contemporary adaptation of Thackeray’s novel about ambitious Becky Sharpe, a poor girl determined to live the dream, promises an amazing theatrical experience.

Shows in the egg for young children include TOM THUMB, a playful show from Lyngo Theatre performed by Cbeebies Patrick Lynch entirely on or under a kitchen table; TAKING FLIGHT recounts the adventures of a young person who leaves home to travel on an international journey; THE MISSING LIGHT uses puppetry, film and live animation to tell the moving story of two elderly neighbours; BUTTERFLIES, is an imaginative and uplifting tale of friendship and courage as three friends cross the seas to uncharted lands; YANA AND YETI, Hattie Naylor’s story set in an Arctic landscape features a cast of extraordinary puppets; A SQUARE WORLD, is a non verbal story which looks at what happens when the world doesn’t seem to be designed for you; Oscar Wilde’s beautiful story of THE YOUNG KING, is presented by internationally acclaimed Australian company, Slingsby, and TABLE MATES, is Theatre Alibi’s story of three cooks who create each other a different delicious course every evening.

For older children, 201 Dance Company returns after a previous sell-out visit with SKIN, which fuses urban and contemporary dance and an original score by Andrea Walker, to tell of a boy’s intimate journey of gender transition and members of Theatre Royal Bath Theatre School present BOUDICA, a brand new ancient history play about Britain’s iconic warrior queen. Toby Thompson performs his bold reimagining of Herman Hesse’s classic fairytale, I WISH I WAS A MOUNTAIN, prior to an extensive tour.

The egg’s Christmas shows will be THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, a laugh-out-loud comic romp set during the French Revolution from Pins and Needles, the team behind last year’s much-acclaimed Little Mermaid, (Sponsored by King Edward’s School), and for very young children, the enchanting SNOW MOUSE returns by huge popular demand for its fourth consecutive year.
