Hundreds dive in at Bubble Rush

-

More than 900 people splashed, dived and covered themselves in bubbles at the third annual Bubble Rush fundraiser. Families and friends of all ages donned colourful clothing to take part in the 5k fun run in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care. Bubble Rush entrants walked or ran around the route filled with clouds of rainbow-coloured foam and enjoyed running through the bubble stations at the Royal Bath and West Showground on Saturday Before and after the race the Bubble Village was packed with entertainment with plenty of fun for participants and spectators. A warm-up routine helped get runners in the mood and live entertainment, a selfie booth, children’s activities, food and drink stalls as well as a colourful accessories stall all added to the fun atmosphere. The only aim of the Bubble Rush was for everyone to pass the finish line covered in coloured bubbles and smiling. All participants went home with a Bubble Rush T-shirt and a medal and were encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as they could for Dorothy House Hospice Care to help fund vital patient care. Emily Knight, events fundraiser at Dorothy House Hospice Care, thanked all the runners and walkers who had taken part. She said: “There was an amazing atmosphere and we loved seeing everyone’s smiley, happy faces. We’re so grateful to all who raised funds for the hospice, to all of our hard-working volunteers and to the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service who were brilliant at handing out medals and water and spraying the participants at the finishing line to cool them down.” Among those taking part were Jen Tolton from Shepton Mallet who said: “I took part for the first time this year with my sister Sam and my niece Poppy, we all had a brilliant time and can’t wait to do it again next year. My sponsorship form is filling up well with pledges for this very worthy cause.” Becky Bird from Frome took part in the event in support of Amy Hawley, a day patient at Dorothy House Hospice Care. She said: “All of us in ‘Team Amy’ loved every minute of the Bubble Rush and we had a fun, family day out with Amy, her daughter Lucie and our friends. “Since her diagnosis, both Amy and Lucie have been supported every step of the way by Dorothy House and their amazing staff and volunteers so we’re delighted to be raising funds for the hospice.” Last year’s event raised £55,000.
