Remanded over theft of bank cards
A 52-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences including bank card fraud in Bath. Wayne Frederick Boswell appeared before Bath Magistrates’ Court on Thursday last week and was remanded in custody. Avon and Somerset police said Boswell from Keynsham was charged with stealing bank cards in a burglary in Englishcombe Lane, Bath, overnight on July 4-5; stealing bank cards and other items in a burglary in Broadmoor Lane, Bath, overnight on July 27-28; driving a motor vehicle taken without the owner’s consent; three counts of fraud by false representation in Bath, using stolen bank cards at a petrol station on July 5, at a supermarket on July 28 and at a fast food restaurant the same day. He was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance, a police spokesman said. Police have reminded Bath residents about home security and have provided the following tips. n Lock up and set the alarm, if you have one, at night as well as when you go out. n Make sure your door is locked by turning the key – some ‘paddle and stub’-handled doors might seem to be locked by lifting the handle, but can still be opened from outside. n Fit a letterbox cage. n Hide your handbag or wallet, keys and other portable valuables safely out of sight. n Keep tools locked up in a secure shed or garage. n Make sure garden furniture and wheelie bins can’t be moved to gain access to upstairs windows. “All these things add up to put a burglar off targeting your home, as does joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme,” a police spokesman said. “If you see anyone acting suspiciously, call us straight away.”
