Casino defends going back on ‘open door policy’

-

A casino in the heart of Bath has seemingly backtracked on an “open door policy” just two months after opening. The Century Casino in Saw Close is set over three floors and now requires visitors to sign up to become a member to enter although it remains free of charge. Just before the grand opening on May 25, Kartini Sutoto, business development manager for the casino, told readers on our website Bath Live’s Facebook page - that all would be welcome, without the need for membership. She said you “don’t have to become a member” to gain access to the casino. But she stressed there were benefits to membership, such as free drinks in certain circumstances. She likened being a member to having a loyalty card. Later in the tour she added further clarity, responding to a question from a member of the public on our Facebook Live broadcast. She said: “It’s completely free entry. We have an open door policy. The only thing we will ask people to do is show their ID to make sure they are of age to enter.” Bath Live understands groups of potential customers opted not to visit the casino on Saturday, August 4, after discovering the need to fill out a form and become a member. Details such as an email address, phone number and address are apparently required to become a member. A spokeswoman for Century Casinos said: “We are just looking at various options currently in terms of membership, one of which is to make it a membership only casino. “We will of course, be communicating with our customers along the way.”
