Ks’ fine start pegged back

-

Keynsham Town got the new Western League season under way in style on Friday night as they crushed Bishop Sutton 5-0 at Crown Fields. In front of the biggest league crowd of the weekend at 265, the sides were level until the 43rd minute, when Craig Wilson netted the first of his two goals. After the break Keynsham were ruthless and doubled their advantage through Matt Brown, before Wilson struck again. Adrian Harvey was next to net, before Nathan Curnock rounded off the scoring in stoppage time. Tuesday night, however, would not go so well for the Ks, as goals from Kristian Bell and a Reece Ferguson-obamwonyi brace saw immediate pacesetters Cheddar win 3-0. Elsewhere in the First Division, Corsham Town swiped the points having put up a stern rearguard at Welton Rovers. They remained level late in the game against a determined home side, and then ran out victorious thanks to skipper Dan King’s freekick with ten minutes to play. In the top flight, Bradford Town overcame Cribbs 2-0, former Larkhall Athletic favourite Tyler Sibbick bagging the opener early in the second half. The Bobcats’ next goal came in bizarre circumstances, as Mark Robinson’s poorly hit effort looked to be heading wide, only for a defender to scuff his own clearance into the net. There was also a 2-0 triumph for Bitton, who saw off Clevedon Town 2-0 with Ben Bament’s brace, Odd Down, meanwhile, made the long trip to newly promoted Plymouth Parkway and went down 2-1 against the well-fancied side. Parkway had been down to ten men for the majority of the game following an early red card for Shane Krac. Down then took a 1-0 advantage as Anthony Conradi found the net, but Adam Carter and Ben Joyce struck within a two-minute spell to win the game for Parkway, who also struck the crossbar with a penalty. ■ LARKHALL ATHLETIC The Plain Ham side came from behind to pick up a good 2-1 win against Southern League top flight side Frome Town. Behind at half-time, Josh Jones and Mason Winter were on target for Phil Bater’s men. Among the new signings for Bater at Larkhall this season is Lewis Powell, a well-known striker on the local non-league circuit, while Ben Lewis, Harry Hope and Ash Mcgrane bolster the midfield. Left-back Wayne Nderemani, a Bath City academy player who featured for the first team in pre-season, has also joined the Larks.
