Dangerous Corner by JB Priestley, presented by Next Stage Theatre Company Tuesday 4 - Saturday 8 September at 7.30pm, matinee at 2pm on Saturday 8

There’s a rare chance to see to one of J B Priestley’s most intriguing plays, Dangerous Corner. The play, being performed by the resident Next Stage Theatre company, is a tightly-woven mystery story which foreshadows the better-known An Inspector Calls. A series of twists keeps the audience guessing about the death of a reclusive businessman, Martin Caplan: was it, as generally believed, connected to the theft of some company money? Why did Martin’s sister-in-law lie about a musical cigarette box, or Olwen about a late-night visit? Why does Gordon get so emotional and what is Stanton trying to hide? As perceived truths unravel, we gradually learn that each of the characters knows more than they had previously revealed about Martin, his death and the crime. The play, Priestley’s first, also reflects his interest in time - the title suggesting that the search for truth can involve “dangerous corners” which might best be avoided. Tickets: £12.50 (£10.50 concs)
