Robins link won’t distract Gill from City

-

Jerry Gill is fully focused on Bath City despite his name being linked with the vacant managerial position at Cheltenham Town. The Robins sacked manager Gary Johnson following a poor start to the season and two campaigns of relatively little success since winning promotion from the National League. If bookies are to be believed, the field for his replacement has thinned considerably, with Lee Carsley, Gary Bowyer and Steve Cotterill all moving from short to long odds. Gill drifted up the pack but, at the time of writing, slipped down to 12/1 odds with Skybet. Russell Slade, Michael Duff and Martin Devaney are considered the top candidates with bookies, with current caretaker Russell Milton - who guided Town to their first win of the season at the weekend - also at shorter odds. Former defender Gill spent five years at Whaddon Road, helping them earn promotion to League 1 and making over 200 starts. But as far as he’s concerned, his focus is on the Romans. “People have told me stuff, I’ve had umpteen messages from people,” said Gill regarding the speculation. “Whatever I say, people are going to read into it. “All I’m doing is managing Bath City Football Club and I’m loving it. I really, really do enjoy it. “Of course it’s flattering [to be linked]. I’ve been coaching for over ten years. It’s not taken lightly and it’s not just a quick fix – I’ve had to go through all my qualifications. “I’m here and I’m enjoying it. The team I’ve assembled this year, the squad I’ve got, I think is a really good group. “I’m enjoying working with them, every single time they come in to train. Every time they play, they’re a fantastic group to work with. “Long may that continue.” City represent Gill’s second job in senior management following a brief foray with Weymouth in 2010. Among other academy roles since, he worked with top prospects at both Norwich City and Wolves. See pages 50&51 for all the latest Bath City news and reports.
