Bath store added to DIY list

Bath Chronicle - - NEWS -

Homebase is to close the doors of its branch in Bath. The DIY store, located just off Pines Way, will be shutting on November 24, the manager confirmed on Monday. The struggling chain had announced it was closing 42 stores across the country earlier this year, although Bath was not named in that list. No further details have been released at this time. Homebase has been contacted for comment. Bath MP Wera Hobhouse was quick to react to the news, indicating she would favour a move by nearby supermarket Sainsbury’s. She said: “Homebase will leave a hole in Bath, but it means that there’s potentially a significant amount of land opening up for redevelopment next to the city centre. Based on Sainsbury’s previous plans, they wanted to move to the Homebase site, so the land around Green Park Station could become available. “If Sainsbury’s do move, it would be a huge opportunity. That land would be perfect for a mixed used development, designed around the needs of the people of Bath.”
