-

Bath Rugby League celebrated a successful second season in the West of England League, winning the Championship Final in a fantastic encounter against Cheltenham with a visit to the Mayor of Bath’s parlour at the Guildhall for celebratory drinks with the mayor, councillor Patrick Anketell-jones. As part of their reflections on the season, they handed out a number of awards to individuals. Matt Warnock received the Clubman gong, with Rob Sully picked as the Coaches’ Player. Joe Wildman won Most Improved, while Brandon Ball took home both Players’ Player and the Man of Steel award. A club spokesperson said: “Matt does a lot of the off the field roles which don’t always get noticed, pumping out social media communications, designing graphics and images, writing press releases and even getting the beers in to share with opposition squads at the end of the season, a great chap to have around the group. “Rob Sully I am told is a coaches dream, does exactly what he is told, committed to training and works hard consistently on match days. “Joe Wildman is new to the sport and only 16, another committed individual with a willingness to learn, plays the sport with a fearless look as he moves around the pitch. “Brandon was a clear winner in the players’ player of the year award and his solid defence and hard running also won him the Man of Steel award. He is also a committed member of the group. “All players put in a great shift this season working together as a cohesive unit. Thanks to the coaching staff Alex Burns and Matt Bodey for shaping a strong culture and environment within the group. “As a club we would like to thank Melksham Rugby Club for hosting us on matchdays and Avonvale Rugby Club for hosting our training sessions. “Thanks also to partner club York City Knights for their advice and guidance throughout the season.” The club also paid tribute to strategic partner Salters Garage, now in their second year of support, plus player sponsors Oldland Electrical Services Ltd (Alex Dare M’connell), Richard Griffin (Leigh Wheatley), Searle Painting & Decorating (Geoff Taylor), C2C Fitness (Luc Thomas), Dragonfly Education Trust (James Noott), Elite Tyre & Autocare Ltd (Brandon Ball), The Trevor Foster Award (Huw Parks), JD Services Ltd (Jordon Talbot), Lawes Steel Fabrication (Connor Breen), Lawes Steel Fabrication (Shai Bonnick), Suave Owl (Kieran Harvey), Auto Air Con (Rob Sully), Mike Bullen (Steven Grant), and NKS Contracts Limited (Ben Thyer). Planning for 2019 has started and the club are looking for people to join as players, off-field personnel, and sponsors or partners.
