Unique cinema experience in solar-powered caravan
The world’s smallest cinema is coming to Bath for the first time this weekend. Sol Cinema advertises itself as “the smallest movie theatre in the solar system” and it will be at Bath Spa train station on Saturday and Sunday as part of Filmbath Festival. Audiences at the Sol Cinema are treated to the red carpet, an usherette service and free popcorn for a very different cinematic experience. Their staff are seasoned performers who add a fun dimension to the solar-powered experience. Sol Cinema uses a solar generator to store renewable energy from the sun. The 120W photovoltaic panel harnesses the sunlight, even as the movies are being shown. This allows the cinema to run indoors or outdoors without running out of power. Projectionist and co-founder of the Sol Cinema Paul O’connor said: “We’ve been doing it for eight years and it’s been amazing. No matter where we are, no matter what country people respond so well to it because cinema is a universal language.” Based in South Wales, the Sol Cinema caravan has been lavished with vintage style. It usually tours round the country attending big events and festivals but has decided to pitch up in the World Heritage city to tick Bath off their bucket list of places to visit. The tiny cinema can fit eight adults or 10 young people comfortably at a time for the experience which offers not only film with surround sound but a live performance element as well. They have their own library of short videos, or you can choose to show your own digital videos. For more information about the free event contact Sol Cinema on 07973 298359.
