£1,000 fine after night out
A Bath student has been told to pay out more than £1,000 in compensation after knocking off four wing mirrors on a night out. According to a tweet from @Tom_ Police, an account run by a police officer based in the city, the offender was ‘lucky’ to just receive a conditional caution and be punished with the final sanctions handed over to the victims. The social media post indicates that the penalties came as a result of a push to use out of court disposal more, a method of dealing with less serious offending. According to the Avon and Somerset police website, out of court disposals are a means of making the crimes victim focused and taking into account the full circumstances of the offence, offender and views of the victim. The police say an offender has to admit guilt to be issued with a disposal.
