Death Row wins indoors

-

Death Row won the toss and asked Combe Down to bat in the opening round of Bath Indoor Cricket League Division B. They made an excellent start with their first three batsmen all retiring (Jamie Mitchell 26no, Tom Hulbert 26 and Jack Stansfield 27no). This enabled a decent target of 109-3 to be set. Death Row started their chase solidly, with good early contributions. Chris Sowton retired, but later returned to record 43 not out, in a winning total of 111-4, with three balls to spare. In the match of the new teams, Hinton Under-19s beat Bath University Ladies. Put in to bat, Hinton’s Will Metcalfe scored 30 and Adam Mapstone 27 to establish a total of 99 all out. Meg Woodward took 2-25. In reply, Bath Ladies scored 87-5 with Maddie Bond carrying her bat for 26. They were assisted by 48 extras, but disadvantaged by four run outs, two of them from Huw Lee. In the final game of the evening, Old Hinton, asked to bat, took the honours against Bear Flat Dads. Acting captain, Richard Paige topped score with 27 not out in a target of 120-3. All three wickets were run outs at the hands of Mike Colbeck. Dads found scoring difficult as they collapsed to 39 all out in 7.1 overs. Guest Chris Borton took 2-5 off 1.1 overs, while Julian Harvey was economical with 1-7 in his spell and Bill White took 1-2 in his single over.
