Hat-trick perfection from Ton’s Griffiths

Bitton struck seven goals past hapless Shortwood United, who remain without a point at the bottom of the Western League Premier Division. The Gloucester­shire side had actually taken a shock lead through Joseph Tustain in the ninth minute, before going on to lose 7-1. Jordan Whittaker equalised on the half-hour, with Josh Egan adding a second before the break. Then the floodgates opened as Dean Griffiths found the net, followed by Whittaker’s second and another for Griffiths, all before the hour. And Griffiths went in to complete a perfect hat-trick on 70 minutes, Joe Mclennon registerin­g the final goal of the rout. Chipping Sodbury Town picked up a surprise win over Odd Down, as second-half goals from Liam Pullen and George Box earned them victory. Two goals in the final eight minutes handed Keynsham Town a 2-0 win over Ashton & Backwell United, Craig Wilson and James Ollis on target. Corsham Town, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Wincanton Town, who took an early lead via Connor Williams. Keeper Adam Clatworthy made some key saves to keep Town in it, before they levelled immediatel­y after the break when Ben Pring headed in. Jamie Irwin soon had Wincanton ahead for a second time, but Pring tucked away a penalty to ensure a share of the spoils. ■ SOUTHERN LEAGUE Larkhall Athletic’s unbeaten away record in Division 1 South was brought to an end by a 1-0 by a late Ik Hill goal at Winchester City. ■ FA VASE This year’s Vase adventure is over for Bradford Town, who fell to a 3-1 defeat against Baffins Milton Rovers. The Wessex League side built up a three-goal lead, with sub James Rustell’s 89th-minute strike consolatio­n for the Bobcats. ■ SOMERSET LEAGUE A thumping afternoon saw Division 1 outfit Keynsham Town Reserves triumph 8-3 over Long Ashton. Liam Crispin hit a hat-trick, Stefan Lee two and Jamie Noble and Aaron Childs one apiece. Josh Hopkins stepped off the bench to score for Saltford, but they would lose 2-1 at Minehead. In the top flight, Odd Down Reserves remain rooted to the bottom after losing 4-0 at Stockwood Wanderers. Fry Club Reserves drew 1-1 against their counterpar­ts from Ashton & Backwell United. Rick Day scored their goal on the stroke of half-time. Fellow Division 2 side Peasedown Miners Welfare lost 1-0 to Glastonbur­y. ■ Corsham Town Reserves drew 1-1 with Meksham Town Reserves in the Wiltshire Senior League. ■ WOMEN’S FA CUP Keynsham Town Ladies dispatched C&K Basildon 8-3 to move into the third round proper. Kerry Bartlett provided four of the goals, joined on the scoresheet by Ellis Hillman, Laura Williams, Justine Lorton and Keka Vega. In the fourth round, come early January, they will host National League Northern Division side Fylde, who currently sit mid-table. Another £1,000 will be at stake, as well as a potential meeting it FA Women’s Super League clubs. ■ Larkhall Athletic Ladies’ home game against Southampto­n Saints was postponed due to a waterlogge­d pitch at Plain Ham.
