CAZ: Just change MOT emissions test

If the Government is concerned about emission standards and the clean air zone really isn’t a stealth tax to boost the coffers of councils, why not amend the MOT emission test to the new required standard. This way not only do the cities get cleaner air, but so will the towns and villages that will inevitably have to cope the traffic looking for alternative routes or who suddenly encounter an influx of new, displaced shoppers. Why should the owner of a 15-year-old car that is in perfect condition with say only 35,000 miles on the clock that easily passes the MOT test, be treated worse than the owner of a ten-year-old car with 85,000 miles on the clock that barely gets through the MOT. The latter is the problem not the former. Dare I say this is not a case of innocent until proven guilty; not even guilty until proved innocent ...just guilty without trial or test. Stan Frith Bath
