PLAYER RATINGS

-

6 Nathan Catt Was part of the dominant scrum in the first half but was loose in defence; missing four tackles on the night.

6 Jack Walker Decent throwing in to the lineout early on, which set up some dangerous mauls.

7 Henry Thomas Ran into plenty of brick walls and was part of a dominant scrum. Unfortunately, he didn’t have many metres – only eight – to show for his 16 carries but never stopped making himself available. Will be aching tomorrow.

5 Charlie Ewels Took some good first-half lineouts but struggled to make an impact elsewhere.

5 Elliott Stooke Quiet by his recent high standards. Only carried the ball three times all game but did make all ten of his tackles.

6 Francois Louw Snaffled an important turnover penalty in the first half and defended well. Given Sale had such little ball he didn’t have that many jackal opportunities.

5 Sam Underhill Missed seven tackles according to the postmatch stats, including the Sale try, which is very high compared to his internationals standards.

5 Zach Mercer Not the game for Zach. Only single figures in terms of metres made, which is rare for him. Looked hampered by a strapped up knee though, and left the field relatively early in the second half.

4 Kahn Fotuali’i Looked slow at the breakdown, threw a poor pass when Bath were camped on the Sale line and his box-kicking was inconsistent.

6 Freddie Burns Had one very nice kick to the corner, but should have used his boot to greater effect in the wet. Ended up trying his chip and chase in desperation as Bath needed a score late on. Missed his only shot at goal and a penalty to touch.

6 Joe Cokanasiga Rarely got the ball so had to come off his wing to look for it, which paid off late on when Cooper Vuna made the break and kicked on for him to score. Also saved a try.

6 Max Wright Made a good turnover after tackling james O’connor. A quiet one in attack.

6 Jackson Willison Put in a lovely crossfield kick for Cokanasiga in the first half. Hit hard but missed two out of five tackles.

6 Semesa Rokoduguni Usually got the ball in heavy traffic but still eked out 68m on the counter. Conceded a couple of turnovers.

7 Ruaridh Mcconnochie Equipped himself well in his first start at full-back in tricky conditions. Used his footwork to get himself out of trouble and was solid on the high ball. His kicking from hand needs a bit of work.

Replacements: Ross Batty 5, Jacques van Rooyen 6, Max Lahiff 6, Matt Garvey 6, Tom Ellis 6, Will Chudley 6, Cooper Vuna 7, James Wilson 7.
