Buccs win with shootout
Team Bath Buccanneers needed a penalty shootout to see off Fareham in the England Hockey Championship. The two sides finished up level at 4-4, but it was Buccs that ran out winners 4-3 on penalty strokes. The men’s A team, meanwhile, lost by the odd goal in seven to Plymouth Marjon, but the Bs won 3-1 at Marlborough. The C Side were beaten 6-1 on the road at Bridgwater and the Es defeat 3-2 at Swindon A, but there was better news for the D team, who were 3-2 victors over North Wilts. Buccs Fs won 4-3 against Cirencester A, the same scoreline going against the G team when they faced of with the University of Bath 6th XI. The ladies 1sts saw each of their six unanswered goals against Isca 2nds scored by different players, Di Bevan, Lara Williamson, Tess Hannah, Anna Reynolds, Thalia Felton and Sarah Hall on target. Imogen Hurst and Caitlin Young both hit the backboard as the 2nds drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, while the 3rds won 3-2 against Old Bristolians. The 4ths edged out Corsham 2-1, Georgie Bale an Natalie Emsley their scorers, with a 1-0 win also recorded for the 5ths at Wells City Acorns.

The men’s top side followed up 1-1 and 2-2 draws by tying a six-goal meeting with Plymouth University. The 2nds were beaten 5-2 at Chippenham A, and the 4ths lost 6-5 to Chippenham B, but the 3rds saw off Marlborough B 6-2. Meanwhile, City’s ladies 1sts walloped Salisbury 3rds 5-0, though the 2nds lost 3-2 to their counterparts from Corsham.
