Buccs win with shootout

Team Bath Buc­can­neers needed a penalty shootout to see off Fare­ham in the Eng­land Hockey Cham­pi­onship. The two sides fin­ished up level at 4-4, but it was Buccs that ran out win­ners 4-3 on penalty strokes. The men’s A team, mean­while, lost by the odd goal in seven to Ply­mouth Mar­jon, but the Bs won 3-1 at Marl­bor­ough. The C Side were beaten 6-1 on the road at Bridg­wa­ter and the Es de­feat 3-2 at Swin­don A, but there was bet­ter news for the D team, who were 3-2 vic­tors over North Wilts. Buccs Fs won 4-3 against Cirences­ter A, the same score­line go­ing against the G team when they faced of with the Uni­ver­sity of Bath 6th XI. The ladies 1sts saw each of their six unan­swered goals against Isca 2nds scored by dif­fer­ent play­ers, Di Be­van, Lara Wil­liamson, Tess Han­nah, Anna Reynolds, Thalia Fel­ton and Sarah Hall on tar­get. Imo­gen Hurst and Caitlin Young both hit the back­board as the 2nds drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, while the 3rds won 3-2 against Old Bris­to­lians. The 4ths edged out Cor­sham 2-1, Ge­orgie Bale an Natalie Em­s­ley their scor­ers, with a 1-0 win also recorded for the 5ths at Wells City Acorns.


The men’s top side fol­lowed up 1-1 and 2-2 draws by ty­ing a six-goal meet­ing with Ply­mouth Uni­ver­sity. The 2nds were beaten 5-2 at Chip­pen­ham A, and the 4ths lost 6-5 to Chip­pen­ham B, but the 3rds saw off Marl­bor­ough B 6-2. Mean­while, City’s ladies 1sts wal­loped Sal­is­bury 3rds 5-0, though the 2nds lost 3-2 to their coun­ter­parts from Cor­sham.
