A pensioner from Bath died after his car collided with a lorry in north Dorset, an inquest has heard.

Sidney Ward, 70, of Kelston View, was said to have crashed his car after pulling into the path of the HGV on Friday, February 15.

He died at the scene on the C13 in Fontmell Hill, Iwerne Minster.

Coroner’s officer Susan Kay told the Bournemouth inquest that Mr Ward, a retired site manager, pulled into the path of a lorry.

Mrs Kay said there was “substantial damage” to Mr Ward’s vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination found Mr Ward’s died of multiple injuries. Dorset assistant coroner Brendan Allen was told Dorset Police is still investigating the circumstances of the collision.

The inquest was adjourned until October 2.

Officers attended the crash along with the ambulance and fire service following reports of two people trapped in a silver Peugeot 207.

At the time it was reported a woman, in her 60s, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the lorry did not sustain any serious injuries.
