Bake Off star Briony tastes success with world record
The ‘Cake and Cocktail’ world record has been broken to raise over £700 for Bath charity Jessie May.
More than 230 people came together to eat cake and drink a cocktail at the same time to set a new world record.
Organised by Briony May, semifinalist in The Great British Bake Off 2018, and Chelsie Bailey, Bacardi Legacy cocktail making contest finalist, the event raised £735 for Jessie May.
The world record, broken at The Gloucester Old Spot pub in Bristol, was to boost funds for the children’s hospice at the charity, whose nurses support local families caring for a terminally ill child.
Briony, 34, from Bristol, who is also running the Bath Half Marathon to boost funds for Jessie May next month, said: “Myself and Chelsie are absolutely thrilled with how the record attempt went.
“It was so much fun and we raised a whopping £735 for Jessie May on the night.
“We had 237 people all eating a slice of cake then drinking their Rum Reverie cocktail made by the very talented Chelsie.
“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to support this wonderful charity.”
Helen Mackie, senior community events fundraiser at Jessie May, said: “What a night and what an incredible fundraising event. It was wonderful to see so many people come together in support of Jessie May.
“The Gloucester Old Spot was absolutely buzzing and we were able to catch up with supporters before devouring the cake and cocktails being served ready for the world record attempt.
“Of course, the cake and cocktails were delicious; but we never doubted that! Jessie May nurses are currently supporting 65 families across the area through vital respite care, emotional support, and endof-life and bereavement support.
“We rely heavily on fundraising events like this to ensure we can continue to offer our services to local families caring for a terminally ill child, and that no family ever has to wait for support.
