Big chance for new players
Bath Rugby League had a fantastic first hit out of 2019 against the University of Gloucestershire. The teams were evenly matched in the first half with Bath taking the lead 14-12 at half time but University of Gloucestershire pulled away in the last 15 minutes to take victory 40-24 on the back of a successful National League South campaign.
Bath took the opportunity to field several new players, with performances certainly impressing the coaching staff. 17-year-old Henry May scored his first try for the club under the stick, but took a knock shoulder charging the post in the process, and James Gamble scored on debut.
A Bath spokesperson said, “We thank the University of Gloucestershire Rugby League squad for getting the game on and making it happen at short notice. The game was also played in great spirit with both squads getting plenty out of the encounter. We found it a great opportunity for us to field some new players, who haven’t played the sport before alongside some more experienced players “
Pre-season begins soon and the club look forward to welcoming back last seasons squad along with new players as they gear up towards the 2019 West of England league.
