Extra bin collections agreed for student hot-spots at end of term
Extra bin collections will be provided in Bath as university students move out of the city for the summer.
The waste collections, which will take place in June, will take place in areas where there are high concentrations of student accommodation.
The Student Community Partnership, a joint venture between the University of Bath and Bath Spa University, their respective students unions, and Bath and North East Somerset Council, has been working with the council’s waste services team to draw up plans to reduce the amount of waste waiting to be collected at a busy time of year.
Previous years have seen a buildup of rubbish after May as students move back home for the summer.
A similar project was undertaken last year and both the University of Bath and Bath Spa University have once again agreed to jointly fund them. Councillor Bob Goodman (inset), cabinet member for development and neighbourhoods, said: “A large number of students move out of their accommodation every summer and as a result generate a huge amount of extra waste.
