Nominations for the Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards 2019 close this week and we want to hear about the apprentices who deserve to be recognised for their hard work.

None less than the Cyber apprentices at Leonardo’s in Bristol who have been passing on their skills to schoolchildren and showcasing the type of work they do on a daily basis.

Leonardo’s provides 24-hour cyber security for a variety of businesses and organisations to protect them from security breaches and the Year 7 students at Henbury School in Bristol got a taste of what being a cyber apprentice is really like.

Swapping textbooks for tools, the children from the school were given the appropriate resources to investigate malware, the software used by criminals to steal confidential information.

The apprentices led the pupils through different tasks to give them a taste of what a typical cyber apprentice would do.

Leonardo’s Kelly Smallcombe explained how important workshops can be for children learning from apprentices.

She said: “I’ve watched children attend a few of our workshops now, and what strikes me is how quickly the children soak up all the information and apply it as soon as they understand it has meaning in the real world.

“I hope this cyber experience will leave them with an understanding that it might be a profession they’d be well suited to”
