Future’s bleak if we fail to take action

-

It was good to see three letters in last week’s Bath Chronicle regarding climate change and the crisis that we are facing.

This crisis that we are seeing in so many different ways has been submerged by other issues in the political world but it is not going away and if action is not taken then the future for coming generations looks bleak.

Last week a group of nearly 30 Christians from 20 churches across Bath and North East Somerset met as part of Christian Action for the Environment in BANES (CAFE BANES) and there was deep concern that sufficient action is not being taken to avoid breaching the limit of a 1.5 degrees increase in global temperatures.

Above this limit serious damage will be done to the environment and we could reach a tipping point towards permanent climate change.

I was asked to write to appeal to our councillors to take seriously the request for a petition on the climate emergency that is being presented to the council this week. It asks for action including making B&NES tackle carbon at a faster speed.

There is much that can be done which in the long run will save the council money.

We would appeal to your readers to contact their councillors to ask for action and also that they put pressure on all candidates in the forthcoming council elections to put environmental care and cli-

mate change at the top of their agendas.
