Work on hotel has been suspended for two weeks
Work on the Hotel Indigo project in Bath has been at a standstill for nearly two weeks, its owner has confirmed.
The building in South Parade is due to reopen as the 166-bedroom Hotel Indigo in September.
St James’s Hotel Group, which owns the hotel, confirmed its building contractor, Phelan Construction Limited, suspended work at the site on February 28.
Nearly two weeks of talks are said to be ongoing between Phelan and St James’s to get work back under way.
No reason has been give for the halt.
A spokesperson for Hotel Indigo Bath said: “St James’s Hotel Group can confirm that on 28 February, Phelan Construction Limited - the building contractor working on Hotel Indigo Bath - suspended work.
“St James’s is extremely disappointed with this recent development, however, is continuing in discussions with Phelan to
resolve the situation.
“St James’s would like to point out that this suspension is not a result of any contractual breach by St James’s.
“St James’s remains fully committed to ensuring construction resumes and Hotel Indigo Bath opens as soon as possible.”
Phelan has been contacted for
comment.
On Phelan’s website in 2016, it announced that the firm had secured the £10 million refurbishment of the 18th Century, Grade I-listed building.
The hotel is replacing the old Pratt’s Hotel and Halycon hotels.
It will have a gym, bars, restaurants, terraces and luxury rooms.
