Kingsmead earn cup progress

-

A howling gale wrecked any chance of an enjoyable game between AFC BAS and Kingsmead in the Tom Morgan Cup quarter finals.

I-n a game of few chances, Divi sion One Kings overcame their lower league opponents, with Ben P-arsons prodding home on 62 min utes, amidst protests for handball from a furious home defence.

BAS pressed for a leveller, but Callum Davies wasn’t called into action much as an exemplary defensive performance preserved Kingsmead’s lead, and helped seal a seventh win in a row.

They’ll join Atletico New Inn, Heritage United and Bath United in the semi-finals. Atletico knocked out holders GT Sports in Keynsham by four goals to one, Sam Pollinger amongst the goals, but Heritage had a scare against FC Trinity. Their lower division opponents opened the scoring through Jake Peard, but a wonder goal by John Dennis and a Mark Taylor brace helped United to a second semifinal this term.

Bath United saw off old rivals Team Nathan 6-2 at Timsbury. Damon King’s hat-trick helped, Nathan had a player sent off after the full-time whistle to compound their misery.

Division Two’s only fixture saw Claverton Park grind out a fourth successive win by the odd goal, this time 3-2 over Radstock Albion at an unsurprisingly blustery Lansdown. Kaylum Escott, Brad Perry and Ashley Warman were their goalscorers, Connor Hall and James Pay ton replied for Radstock.

Lansdown FC came back from 2-0 down against Farrington Albion for the second time this year to draw. Darren Whitfield and Luke Tucker gave Albion a commanding lead, but they threw it away late on with Marcus Chapman taking advantage of defensive mishaps to e-arn a share of the spoils, the equal iser with the very last kick of the game.
