Pupils capture tags

-

Two hundred and seventy pupils captured 816 tags at the 13th annual St Mark’s/east Bath Primary Sports Cluster held at Bathampton Primary.

Batheaston, Bathampton, Bathford, Bathwick St Mary’s and Swainswick Primaries met for 32 games of tagtails. Tagtails is a noncontact version of tick where teams capture tails (Velcro tags) off their opponents while trying to keep their own.

Teams have spare lives so no-one is out immediately. Once all the spare lives have been used players are then out. Sometimes teams capture all the opponents’ tags whilst still having all their own players in play, at other times teams that started as 15 versus 15 are reduced to three versus three or even one versus one.

Primary School Sports Coordinator Brendan Rouse said: “Bathampton Year 4 achieved the highest combined score with a total of 126 tags, whilst Swainswick had the highest individual team score of 67. Bathwick St Mary’s Year 3 scored a maximum 30 tags in one of their matches.

“Batheaston and Bathford deserve special praise for walking to Bathampton.”

■ Year 4 pupils at Bathford Primary organised and delivered a sports festival for 180 Reception class pupils from Batheaston, Bathford, Bathwick, St Saviour’s infants and Swainswick Primaries. The pupils took part in seven events that included gymnastics, egg & spoon races, playground games, football skills, multi-skills obstacle course and foam javelin throwing.

Primary School Sports Coordinator Brendan Rouse, who trained the leaders, praised them for developing safe and active games.
