People will stop using post office

-

I write regarding readers’ comments to my recent letter.

I was referring to the ridiculous relocation of the general post office within Wh.smith.

Obviously the Post Office has had its problems, self-inflicted in the first instance due to the sub-post office scandal costing them £58 million.

However, you don’t make customers liable for the PO’S incompetence by drastically downgrading the service here in the city.

Should this situation continue I’m sure the paying public will ultimately stop using these sub-standard facilities and regretfully hasten the PO’S decline.

My letter also flagged-up an issue with Avon and Somerset Police.

I strongly believe they need a physical presence within the city and it doesn’t take Mystic Meg to tell you that, generally speaking, they appear to have lost sight of public concerns.

Or maybe they are just plain overrun by the volume of work. This will ultimately lead to a worrying lack of confidence by the public in our local force.

Some would say this present situation is thanks to a previous Home Secretary dramatically reducing their numbers.

However, people require reassurance, if only a perception of order.

The police need to re-connect with us in Bath and a working central police station, would go a long way to help regain some degree of confidence for residents and the public in general.

It is worth bearing in mind that we are not living in some isolated backwater. We are in fact living and working in a world famous city and its residents require facilities to reflect that reality. Mick Ringham Bath
