Company marks 50 years of quirky theatre shows
A theatre company is celebrating its 50th year with a production taking a look at the darker side of Bath.
The city’s Natural Theatre Company will premiere its new show, ‘Dirty Bath’, at the Rondo Theatre in Larkhall.
The company, best known for its quirky street theatre and comedy characters, was born out of Bath Arts Workshop, a multi-disciplinary community arts group that took the city by storm in the 1970s.
Dirty Bath forms part of the 50th celebrations. It combines the company’s passion for history with its love of making people laugh.
It aims to shed a light on the darker and lesser-known aspects of Bath’s past and promises to offer an amusing alternative – although no less accurate – history of the city.
The globe-trotting group of over 40 professional actors has performed in 48 countries and counting, but still regularly surprises visitors and residents of Bath with its pop-up street performances.
These can be seen 363 days of the year beside the Great Bath at the Roman Baths, where visitors to the popular tourist attraction are entertained by characters in historical costumes.
Andy Burden, artistic director of the Natural Theatre Company, said: “Dirty Bath is the riotously funny and darkly alternative story of Bath and tells the forgotten and overlooked aspects of the city’s past. It’s the kind of history lesson you wished you’d had at school!”
The show will run from Wednesday March 11 to Saturday March 14, at 8pm, at Rondo Theatre. Prices start at £14 and tickets can be bought by ringing 0333 666 3366 or by visiting www.rondotheatre.co.uk/whatson.
