Patient Hinton bat to victory
Hinton Charterhouse B elected to field in their latest match in the Bath Indoor Cricket League. Their tight bowling kept extras and runs to a minimum and Adam Mapstone was the pick of the bowlers with 2-9, including a wicket maiden. Bath Spa’s captain, Tom Smith, was 36 not out, scoring a four and three sixes, with the team setting a target of 70-4.
Patient batting from Hinton’s Chris Borton and, later, Matt Walker, took the team to 73-2 with two and a half overs to spare.
The Venturers completed their league season, with victory over a spirited Bear Flat Dads. Batting first, the Dads made a rapid start with quick running until Venturers inflicted a run-out. This gave them the opportunity to reduce the run scoring with some very effective bowling.
Thus, the Dads were all out on the last ball for 67 runs. Adil Mustafa bowled a double wicket maiden finishing with 2-6. Two sixes in the first over from Shorya Moona (25 not out) allowed Venturers to construct a careful innings. With Matt Roberts 14 not out, the winning target was reached by the end of the seventh over.
Bathampton Sloths chose to bat and, despite having rested their star man, Hugh Cornes (27 not out) and skipper, Johnny Lewis (29 not out), stepped into the breach to set a high score of 137-1. The Sloths, bowling tightly with some rarely used fielding positions, managed to keep an attacking Bath Ladies to 85-5. Their guest player, Dom May, scored 33, with four sixes.
