Agency shifts through the gears for a good cause

-

A Bath business has teamed up with former professional racing cyclist turned broadcaster Dan Lloyd to raise nearly £30,000 for charity.

Riding nearly 1,500km in one month, Mr Lloyd, a presenter on Youtube channel Global Cycling Network, has raised over £28,000 for World Bicycle Relief (WBR).

The campaign was devised and managed by the Bath-based communications agency SHIFT Active Media, which specialises in cycling and tri-sports.

Mr Lloyd’s efforts on the road during December contributed towards WBR’S mission to change lives in developing countries through the power of bicycles.

Dan had originally aimed to ride 1,000km and raise £10,000 for the charity, but due to his efforts going viral online, he soon surpassed both targets.

As donations continued to flood in, the stakes were raised, with Mr Lloyd pledging to ride 1,484km – a figure matching the number of likes he received when he first announced the campaign on the Global Cycling Network app.

As the odometer ticked over to 1,484km with a couple of extra kilometres for good luck, Mr Lloyd reached his goal on Christmas Eve with one final ride.

Lloyd’s endeavours have not only generated funds for the charity, but have also transformed awareness for its cause.

Amassing over 150,000 Youtube views, more than 52,000 likes, nearly 2,000 comments and hundreds of shares and retweets, the campaign has raised the profile of WBR among cyclists.

The £28,323 raised will enable WBR to provide 236 of their specially designed, rugged Buffalo bikes to individuals worldwide. The bicycles will empower children to reach school, health workers to visit patients, and farmers and entrepreneurs to transport goods.
