Oldfield go top in derby win

-

Oldfield A took top spot in the Premier Division of the Bath & District Table Tennis League as they dispatched their C team 27-11. Lee Phillips was MOTM and was ably backed up by Alistair Pearson’s maximum.

Chippenham A also had an interclub game and won 26-11 against their B team. The experience of Gary Baldwin and Terry Parkins told through for the A team as they keep their unbeaten run going.

Bath Invaders B won away at Oldfield B, 24-14. Jack Vaughan was MOTM for the Invaders who continue to have an impressive season; moving above Oldfield B.

Key Centre B pulled off the shock of the week in Division One as they beat their A team 23-15. The A team had to call upon Sue Ruse from the C team, but the form of Phil Smith for the B team was too steady on the night for the A team.

Yatton Keynell A moved to the top with a 27-9 win over second bottom Batheaston A. Alan Hulbert and Andrew Purkiss both gained maximums to send Yatton to the top, with a game in hand over second placed Bear Flat A.

Radstock B held their nerve to pip Ensleigh A to the win, 23-22. Dan Walker was in inspired form for Radstock but it wasn’t until the fourth set win of the doubles until his team won the match.

Radstock C are starting to cement a promotion place in Division Two with a 30-5 win over Oldfield E. Maximums from all three players helped them stay 47 points ahead of third placed Chippenham C.

There was a rare postponement after just a few games for Key Centre C against Chippenham C due to a fire alarm. It couldn’t be switched off in a timely manner so it will have to be replayed at a later date.

Mayfield were also big winners as they put bottom placed Ensleigh B to the sword 29-6. Nigel Woolley was MOTM, supported by Stephen Tanner’s maximum to continue their good run of form.

Batheaston B overcame the improving Bear Flat C with a 21-15 win; MOTM went to Chris Sharpe. Yatton Keynell C beat Bathford D 24-8; Richard Terrell picked up his fourth MOTM award.
