Redpath signed up from Sale

-

Bath Rugby have signed emerging England U20s star Cameron Redpath from Sales Sharks with immediate effect on a three-year contract.

The signing comes as some coup for Bath and Stuart Hooper with Sale admitting they didn’t want the talented youngster to leave.

Redpath, who has been called up by Eddie Jones to train with the England senior side, was in his second year of a five-year contract at the Sharks but has struggled for game time this season.

Sale revealed Bath have paid a six-figure transfer fee to release Redpath from his Sale Sharks contract after unsuccessful negotiations with the player to keep him at the club.

He will be available for selection to face Bristol Bears this weekend.

Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond said: “We have a hard working and vibrant culture at the club which is developing through selective recruitment and the inclusion of our home-grown talent. We are 100 percent committed to our academy vision and the development of high-level players within the North-west. However, the most important ingredient in this process is the desire for our players and staff to actually want to be here. After meeting with Cameron on several occasions over the past few weeks, it became clear his desire was to leave the club.”

Redpath said: “I would like to thank everyone at Sale for their support over the last two seasons, the coaches and staff at Sale were nothing but good to me. I wish everyone at the club all the best for the remainder for the season and the future.

Bath director of rugby Hooper added: “We’re excited to welcome Cameron to our club. We continue to work hard to grow our game and to build our squad, and we see Cameron as a very exciting young talent who adds strength and depth to the superb midfield players we already have here at Bath.

“He’s getting stuck in straight away and we are looking forward to seeing him play in the Blue, Black and White. We’ve got some big matches coming up and having more options to tackle the varying challenges the likes of Bristol, Exeter and Irish will bring gives us more opportunity to control the matches and get some big wins on the board.”
