Wera Hobbs MP: Creative solutions to the lack of investment
Istarted off last month by organising an interactive conference on the future of arts and culture in Bath. I hosted 100 participants representing many groups from the local arts community.
It took place at Bath Spa University’s School of Art and Design’s stunning new Locksbrook Campus.
This was a brilliant opportunity to share creative solutions to the lack of investment in the industry.
Speaking of organisations who do fantastic work in our community, Citizens Advice had the honour of a visit from the Princess Royal. I was pleased to be in attendance, and it proved to be a real showcase for the invaluable services that the organisation provides to local people.
Congratulations to Les Redwood and the entire team for their services to Bath.
I have received a large amount of letters and emails about the post office, which I visited last week.
They have more staff starting soon, and have improved access for wheelchair users. They certainly are listening to people’s concerns, and I was very encouraged by what I saw.
As many of you know, I have been campaigning for quite some time for better treatment of eating disorders. I continued that with a drop-in session for MPS in Westminster, working with the fantastic charity BEAT.
I’m keen to build a cross party consensus within Parliament which will have the power to bring about better treatment and care for people who live with these debilitating illnesses.
I have also added my support for a call for an inquiry into the UK’S assisted dying laws.
I have thought about this complex issue since I was first elected to Parliament. I have listened to many people with differing views on the subject.
I now believe a call for evidence to review the current legislation is needed, and have urged the Secretary of State to consider it.
I applaud campaigners for Dignity in Dying like local retired nurse
Pauline Carroll for their persistence and dedication.
The way our European friends living in the UK are being treated by this government is appalling. Helping them obtain Settled Status is a top priority.
B&NES Council, along with my office, Bath for Europe and other groups, is holding a European Citizens’ Fair at St Michael’s Without on Saturday, March 28, 11am-2pm, to offer practical advice and information. Please come along if the event sounds relevant to you!
