A Bath primary school has closed so deep cleaning can take place after a parent of a pupil confirmed they had been infected with coronavirus.

Combe Down Primary School headteacher Jane Gascoigne sent a letter to parents and carers saying the infected child had informed them of the news on Tuesday.

A statement has been issued stating that the school plans to reopen on Monday.

The statement said: “On Tuesday, March 17, late morning, the school received a call informing them that a parent of a child in Combe Down Primary School had been confirmed as having the Covid-19 virus.

“As a result, the school contacted all parents to inform them of the situation. All parents were then asked to collect their children so that the risk of possible infection was reduced.

“The school will remain closed for the remainder of the week to allow for deep cleaning, as a precautionary measure in line with current advice.

“The school will close from 3.15pm on Tuesday, March 17, and is intended to reopen on Monday, March 23.

“However, with the situation changing at such speed, the school will continue to follow Department of Education and Public Health England guidelines to assess when reopening is possible.

“The ongoing safety of our school pupil and staff community is our number one priority and we have offered the family in question our ongoing support.”
