Shop that lends and mends to open

-

A shop that doesn’t sell anything but instead lends and fixes will open in Bath city centre.

Local community group Share and Repair is stepping up its project with a store opening, making it even easier for residents to help the planet and the community.

The shop will open on Broad Street on Monday, March 23 and stay open until July this year.

Share and Repair runs weekly repair events in the area at which volunteers fix broken gadgets, clothes and bikes for free while their Library of Things lends useful items that are only used occasionally, reducing the need to buy and store them.

Founder of Share and Repair Bath Lorna Montgomery said: “This is a game-changer. Sharing and repairing are going to become as handy and as everyday as popping to the shop for milk.

“People want to do their bit for the planet and their local community by reducing waste, keeping favourite items working longer and cutting back on consumption.

“Our goal is to make that just as easy as possible. Soon, you’ll be able to pop into the Share and Repair Shop on Broad Street to borrow a carpet cleaner, cordless drill or garden shredder for just a few pounds.”

The Share and Repair Shop has launched an urgent appeal for items to lend, volunteers and funds.

The shop unit has been given by Bath and North East Somerset Council to Share and Repair.

Councillor Richard Samuel, cabinet member for resources, said: “We are pleased to see this empty shop being used for such a worthwhile project.”
