Cafe forced to end sushi sales after 20 years

-

Dashi cafe in Bath Spa Railway Station has been selling sushi to commuters for 20 years - but now it seems they will have to settle for a sandwich.

The food outlet has faced a number of problems which has meant it cannot continue to make and sell sushi.

David Cole, who has been one of the general managers of Dashi Sushi Ltd since 2000, told us that their reasons were fourfold.

They can’t afford to keep buying the products to make sushi, they are struggling to get staff to make it, they aren’t selling enough and with Yo Sushi set to open across the street and another food outlet opening in the lobby there is too much competition.

David said: “We’ve just had to make cuts. We still do lovely bacon rolls and organic coffee. It’s a shame after 20 years of selling sushi.

“We’ve had to put a slight rise in our prices but we are still cheaper and better than everyone else.”

Dashi also faces the problem that you can also only get to the food outlet if you are travelling by train.
