Abuse over Bath Half just not acceptable

-

I took part in the Bath Half on Sunday. My only dilemma was the weather and how it would affect what I wore and the run itself.

The new strain of flu virus didn’t cross my mind. I had more chance of catching it when out shopping in Bath the day before than I did before, during or after the run.

Nor did 15,000 people descend on Bath for the run (as quoted on social media) as most people who run or support already live here.

The abuse that has been thrown at the organisers and runners is totally unacceptable and unforgivable. You are entitled to an opinion, as am I, but if you don’t respect mine don’t expect any back.

The level of childish scolding from those hiding behind social media led to an attempt to deliberately injure a marshal and runners by someone trying to gain access to the route in a car in order to interfere with the run.

The pubs/restaurants/clubs in town on Saturday night were full of people not caring that they are the ones who will actually spread the virus; not a few people running in the rain.

Well done to Andrew Taylor and the organisers who asked for and listened to proper medical and legal advice, before continuing with the event rather than jump on the headless panic band wagon.

Thank you to all the marshals, helpers and those people who came out in the rain to cheer us on.

Well done to all of you who ran the real Bath Half Marathon this year, you truly deserve the bling.
