Baskervilles youngsters are golden wonders
Baskervilles Gymnastics Club celebrated six overall gold medals at the Dragonfly competition at Writhlington Gymnastics Club in Radstock.
Baskervilles took a strong team of 21 to compete across six divisions at the boys’ artistic gymnastics competition for children who train 1.5-11 hours a week.
All competitors performed on two apparatus, the floor and vault. In the under-nine division, where gymnasts train between one-anda-half and two hours a week, Toby Adams took gold overall after two stellar performances. Teammates Milo Fletcher and Freddie Stewart took silver and bronze.
In the same division, Conan Clarke took gold after performing a powerful vault, closely followed by
Fred Park, who won silver on vault.
For under-nine gymnasts who train between three and three-anda-half hours a week, Alex Jenkin had a electric competition to win gold overall. He was joined on the podium by Finley Thyer and Loris Corke, who shared second. Conrad Else and Toby Hemborough followed just behind in bronze after a string of consistent performances.
Ciaran Martins received gold overall alongside training partner Alim Dive, who collected bronze in the under-nine boys training between six and 11 hours a week.
In the under-7 1½-2 hours category, Isaac Reeves was thrilled to finish first alongside teammate Jude Haywood, who won bronze overall. Ruadh O’neill finished second on floor.
James Flintoff won gold overall in the under-11 5-11 hours category. Isaac Head and Owen Bendry won gold and silver in the under-11 1.5-2 hours category.
Coach Paul Baskerville said: “We would like to congratulate Oliver Clarke, Jaden Goram, Ewan Miller, Reggie Hodges, James Parson and Frederick Spedo Mirandola for representing Baskervilles and gaining valuable competition experience.
“It has been great to see so many boys performing their gymnastics routines and vaults with such confidence. I am very proud of every Baskervilles gymnast for their accomplishments on Sunday.”
The club thanked Paul and Jacob Prescott for judging and Toby Short and Ciaran Sheppard for coaching during the day.
