Brothers star in the Cup

-

The Star won the toss and decided to bat in their Bath Indoor Cricket League Knockout Cup first round tie.

A good opening stand between the Boreham brothers produced a score of 68 from six overs, before Adrian departed on 22. Harjett Singh (29 not out) took The Star to 119-3, having scored one four and two sixes. Karan Gulati took 2-25.

Bath Ladies’ Dom May (53 not out) retired and returned towards the end to strive for the win, hitting four sixes and one four in the last over, off the bowling of Harjeet Singh (the one dot ball hit the bowler’s wicket to prevent a six). However, the Ladies fell short by 23 runs. Andy Steady took 2-4 and Ajay Bhatt gave away only four runs in his two overs.

Hinton Charterhouse A were put into bat. Openers Henry Cheal (27 not out) and James Purchase (21) set a good foundation, which allowed a score of 93-2 to be set, despite lesser contributions from other players. Frome lost their initial wicket in the first over – Henry Cheal with a direct-hit run-out.

Their captain, Jonathan Dredge, and Richard Potter both scored 23, as Hinton’s bowling reduced Frome to 78-4 in their ten overs. Henry Cheal took 1-10.

Five-man Hampset inserted Bear Flat Dads. Despite being a man down, they restricted the Dads to 71 all out. Mike Child top-scored with 24 and Sam Marquiss took 2-9. Hampset were always behind the run-rate and after losing three quick wickets to Chris Salmon (3-14) the Marquiss cousins valiantly fought for the win. Sam scored 23 and Tom 26, but he was run out on the last ball of the innings with the score on 70.

The best losing team was Bath Spa, who go forward to the quarterfinals.
