Captains tee up the season
Bath Golf club held its curtain raiser to the season on Saturday. The Captains’ Drive-in started the event with captain Steve Harper, ladies captain Jill Carter, senior captain Mike Power and junior captain Matthew Wordon taking their drives off the first tee.
To celebrate the centenary of the ladies section, as well as the club’s 140th anniversary, the captains chose to wear 1920s outfits for the event and Harper also chose to drive with a pre-war hickory shafted driver, which resulted in the poorest drive of the day.
The shotgun mixed fourball stableford event that followed was very well supported with more than 90 players taking part. The competition was won by the team of Tony Mccallum, Paul Tucker, Russell Wakefield and Andy Akers with a score of 103 points.
Thanks to the generosity of the players taking part on the day, the captains managed to raise over £300 for their chosen charity, Sporting Family Change, who use sport to empower, motivate and assist families in the local Bath area to make positive lifestyle changes.
On Monday in fine, dry conditions the seniors held a stableford competition. The competition was won by Richard Morris with a fine score of 40, with Nick Martin second on 39. Third on 38 was Ben Cook with Christopher Jones fourth on 37.
