Pears claims Winter Series trophy

-

Bath Cycling Club have been busy in recent times.

At the end of February, Rob Pears claimed the overall win in the Avid Sport Odd Down Winter Series. Across the eight races, Pears finished 1st, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 7th for a total of 330 points. Two begin March, two Simons braved the wind at the DB Max Winter 10-mile TT on the Castle Combe circuit, while the younger riders put in a strong effort amongst a quality field at The Severn Bridge Road Race.

Sam and Will Duffy and Conor Chandler took part alongside seventh and 12th finishes for Nic Mckibbin and Miles Burton.

Kim Barfoot-brace finished Ironman New Zealand. She rode the rolling 112-mile bike course in 5hours 6.50mins, the fastest nonprofessional bike split and sixth fastest female overall. Barfootbrace ended up fourth in her age group, 24th overall, despite breaking her thumb in the swim’s mass start and suffering heat exhaustion on the run, in a total time of 10:45.38.

Before British Cycling announced the cancellation of all officially sanctioned events until the end of April, riders endured a brutal day out at the Betty Paroah Road Race in South Wales. The field consisted of a high number of elite and 1st cat riders.

In the E123s, Miles Burton was 16th, Charlie Shields 18th, Will Duffy 24th, Sam Duffy 26th and Elliot Barratt 33rd. Two of the four riders in the 3/4s finished, including Oliver Bridgewood who took fourth.

In line with the government advice, this weekend’s TT has been cancelled, as has the Reliabilitytrial on April 5, but Jon Witty is hoping to adapt it to continue raising money for Macmillan Cancer.
