Early victory for Holland

Winter training goes well for World Cup

-

Triathlete Vicky Holland said she was pleased to see her winter’s training at the University of Bath produce some early success as she claimed victory in the Mooloolaba World Cup in Australia.

In what proved to be the last event before World Triathlon announced the suspension of all races until the end of April, Holland, who trains with British Triathlon’s Bath National Performance Centre, produced a strong performance before pulling away from compatriot Georgia Taylorbrown on the run to take first place.

The 2018 world champion told triathlon.org: “On paper this was a World Cup race and not a World Series race, but it means a lot more than that because of the current climate and because we don’t know when the next race will go ahead.

“I wanted to see how my winter’s training has gone because I have done a lot of work on the swim-bike and I felt they were both pretty solid today.

“I haven’t really started my full run training yet and I am probably about 60-70 per cent on volume, so I am over the moon with that result.

“I didn’t think I would run that well but I got the bit between the teeth and I thought I would have a dig and I came out on top.”

Led by head coach Rhys Davey, with the support of South West Academy director Blair Cartmell, the Bath National Performance Centre is based at the University’s Sports Training Village with triathletes training on the indoor and outdoor athletics track, in the Olympic-sized London 2012 Legacy Swimming Pool and in the Team Bath Gym and Fitness Centre.
