Paws for thought... animal home in urgent ned of support

-

It’s kitten season which means lots of adorable new arrivals at Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

But while watching the kittens play is “joyous” for staff, it is also a huge worry during the coronavirus lockdown.

Adoptions and fostering are on hold at the home as part of its coronavirus measures, which leaves it with an everincreasing number of animals to look after.

At the same time, coronavirus restrictions have also taken away much of the home’s usual sources of revenue.

Bath Cats and Dogs Home has issued a plea for more financial supporters during this desperate time.

“It’s an incredibly tough time for us,” chief executive Rachel Jones said.

“Naturally, all public-facing fundraising events have been postponed. Our charity shops across the county are closed and many of the ways we usually raise money to support our animals have been put on hold.

“We desperately need people to support us more than ever.”

Since the lockdown all adoptions have been put on hold.

Later this week the shelter hopes to resume adoptions on animals previously reserved. If these adoptions do go ahead, the cat or dog will be delivered to its new home with all social distancing measures observed.

New adoptions will remain on hold however.

The shelter is near to capacity with the animal care team currently looking after 130 animals on site every day.

While Bath Cats and Dogs Home says it would never turn away an extreme cruelty case or an animal in dire need, it’s becoming more and more difficult for the home to operate in the current circumstances.

The charity said it costs £394 per month per kennel space and £128 for a cattery space and is looking for donations to help cover the costs.
