Drive to provide face masks for all

-

A plan to provide affordable personal protective equipment to every resident of Bath and North East Somerset has been launched.

Bath and its surrounding areas have already made numerous strides towards addressing any potential lack of PPE, with more than 45,000 face masks made and distributed by staff at the University of Bath as of earlier this month.

A project to provide affordable face masks across the region is now under way, with Peasedown St John Community Library already having sold over 300 masks.

Cllr Karen Walker, operations manager for the library, said: “Face masks, regular hand washing and keeping a safe distance of at least two metres apart, could be regular features of public life for at least the next 12 months.

“All of this though does come at a cost, both financially and socially, which is why we wanted to take part in this new project here in Peasedown St John. Face masks can be expensive, particularly for people needing to buy four, five or six for their families.”

The scheme is being presented by Somerset Face Masks, which is offering reusable and washable masks for £2.50 each.

People are invited to contact the company by email: somerset.facemasks@hotmail.com.
