Parking ban would punish local heroes

-

I understand that B&NES councillors are planning to restrict parking in some of our local shopping areas including Larkhall.

I am writing to express my disgust at this utter waste of public money at a time when the local authority is going be struggling to maintain regular services.

The traders of Larkhall have been Local Heroes in ensuring that those of us who could not leave our homes for several weeks were supplied with the best produce, delivered as often as we needed and with smiles and good wishes.

And now, B&NES are planning to ban parking in Larkhall village and widen the pavements to better allow ‘social distancing.’

According to one trader, almost half of their business is from out of the immediate village area with people coming in to buy from quality independent food shops.

This parking ban will have a devastating effect on shoppers’ ability to travel into the village and shop.

Can B&NES please desist in this daft idea especially at a time when they should be supporting local business.

During the lockdown it is our local traders who have been the heroes and we should cherish them not put obstacles in their way.
