Members enjoying playing on course

-

Play at Bath Golf Club resumed two weeks ago following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

During the downtime the course was excellently maintained by a reduced greenkeeping staff who worked very hard within the restrictions to enable the course to reopen.

The club has followed guidance from England Golf and enforced a booking system, currently playing in pairs only with procedures in place to enforce social distancing, reduce risk of contact and a system of improved cleaning and sanitisation measures.

Members have embraced the return to playing, with the course fully booked every day since reopening and all members continue to appreciate the efforts made by all staff at the club to make play possible.

The club has also confirmed priority bookings have been open for frontline NHS staff to enjoy their golf and continue their efforts.

Last weekend saw the first stableford competition held and entry was open all members across the weekend.

Fine, dry weather meant the course was playing shorter than usual but a gentle breeze, combined with fast, undulating greens, made for some testing conditions.

Scoring was excellent and winner of Division One was Steve Francis with 42 points. Second on 39 was Will Warman with Pete Foster third on countback and Kelvin Green fourth on 38.

In Division Two, Duncan Spooner was the winner with 41, three ahead of Mark Charlesworth with Richard Pool beating Simon Clamp to third on countback.

Division Three was won by Jane Franke with 43, beating Mary Perkins on countback. Susan Clamp was third on 40, ahead of Katy Pool on countback.

Members really have enjoyed their return to golf and, in the last week, four holes-in-one have been made.

New member Alex Wood drove the 18th, a distance of over 400 yards, while Pippa Western recorded an ace on the 14th.

Since reopening, Bath has welcomed over 70 new members and the club extends a warm welcome to them all.

If anyone is interested in joining, contact the club manager on 01225 463834 or email clubmanager@ bathgolfclub.org.uk.

The course remains closed to all visitors at the moment so those wishing to play will have to become members of the club.
