Annual relay race goes virtual
The Avon Rally Relay will still be going ahead, but it will now be taking a virtual look.
Runners have until 11.59pm on Saturday, July 4 to enter your team for free via www.entrycentral.com/ Avrrelay2020, although there is a minimum service fee to sign up. You don’t have to be a member of Avon Valley Runners or a running club to enter.
The event is raising money for the charity Shelter via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/avrrelay. It is asked that all members of a team make a small donation to the page.
From Monday, June 22 to Sunday, July 5 runners will have two weeks to complete a leg for their team, avoiding the need for all runners to be out and about in one day. Runners can do their leg wherever they like providing that socially distancing measures are maintained.
Runners are asked to post on the Facebook event page once they have completed their leg with a picture of their watch or screenshot of their Strava/garmin with completed time. If any runner does not have access to Facebook they can email hollyjeannewman@hotmail. co.uk.
Time for results will use elapsed time, not moving time, so runners are asked not to pause their watch mid-run as organisers are trusting everybody to be honest. Each team needs four legs to be completed, one 2.5k, one 5k, one 7.5k and one 10k.
In light of the circumstances, they are category competitions which are slightly different to previous years.
These include: best team name, best socially distanced team picture (either together or stitched separately), best picture of running in fancy dress, first male team, first female team, first junior team (all members must be under 18 on race day and the 10k leg must be completed by someone aged 16 or over) and first mixed team (at least one male and female runner).
