Ladies looking for more players as nine depart

-

Bath Rugby Ladies enjoyed a hugely successful 2019/20 season before the premature end to the campaign due to COVID-19. After qualifying for the play-offs for a second successive season, Bath were unbeaten in the first three rounds and just one game away from the Championship 1 National Final.

The club is currently working hard behind the scenes to ensure that they are ready for action again next season, whenever that may be. At the end of each season, each club has thank yous and goodbyes to be said to the players and staff that have contributed but won’t be returning the next season, and this year is no different for Bath.

First XV vice-captain and Welsh lock Gemma Thorburn has decided to hang up her boots after seven seasons with the club and will leave a big hole in the Bath pack. Powerful winger Anna Davies represented the Great Britain Rugby League Teachers team last season and has taken up an offer to cross codes and join Wigan Warriors in the Women’s Super League.

Young scrum-half Sofia Mazzone has accepted an offer to join Exeter Chiefs’ new women’s side that have recently been accepted into the Women’s Premiership.

Other players leaving the club this summer include prop Nat Lewis, lock Harriet Perkins, lock Lorna Mckinlay, flanker Lizzie Griffin, wings Becky Harrison and Olamide Abegunde and second XV head coach Gavin Hancock. The club placed on record its thanks for of their hard work on and off the pitch during their time with them.

With nine players and a coach departing, Bath is actively working behind the scenes to recruit new players to the club and new females to the sport. The club operates a first and second XV with plans to launch a third team in due course, so any interested players are welcomed to contact the club through its social media outlets.
