-

There were 16 new cases of coronavirus recorded across Somerset overnight to Tuesday but no new deaths.

According to the latest data (September 22), four out of the six areas in the county recorded an increase.

The biggest jump was in Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset, where seven more cases were confirmed. These districts have now recorded a total of 488 and 1,083 respectively since the start of the pandemic.

Both Sedgemoor and Somerset West and Taunton reported a rise of three, their totals are 439 and 490 respectively.

The data shows the country-wide total number of cases increased by 4,926 in the previous 24 hours, rising to 403,551.

There were 37 UK recorded deaths from people who have tested positive for Covid-19 within the last 28 days.

Boris Johnson blamed the spread of Covid-19 on a “minority of people” who did not follow the rules.

The Prime Minister told MPS: “The problem we have in the spread of this virus is that, alas, a minority of people have not been following the guidance in the way they might have done and what we’re trying to do now is get everybody to focus on those rules, on that guidance, to enforce it strictly and to get the R down.”
