Residents outraged over graffiti blast at Twerton

A Bath mum says she was appalled to find the words “welcome to dirty Twerton” daubed onto walls in her neighbourhood.

Sarah Hobbs, 37, says she was very disappointed to come across the graffiti along a narrow lane near the Full Moon pub, off Connection Road, with her young son.

Other Twerton residents expressed their outrage on social media and said it undermined the good work people were doing to try to improve the Bath suburb.

Mrs Hobbs said: “I am not sure when it was put on the wall but it wasn’t there last week.

“My husband said it was there on his way to work on Monday (September 14), though.

“I felt hugely disappointed when I saw it as my five-year-old was looking too and asking what it said.

“Yes there’s litter but there’s litter in other areas of Bath too.

“Yes some areas are dirty, there is dog mess on the pavement and certain people leave cans of alcohol on the High Street, despite the fact it is supposed to be a drink-free zone, and they don’t take away the rubbish they chucked on the floor.

“The majority of people in Twerton are trying to clean up the area and there’s the few that don’t care and have no respect for the area or others.”

Twerton councillor, Tim Ball, has challenged local residents to pick up six bits of litter a week and said it would go a long way to getting rid of all litter in the area.

Referring to the graffiti, he said: “Someone clearly has plenty of time on their hands.

“They clearly don’t know about the efforts people go to when they come out and clear up the area.

“For the last two Sundays running, we have had people out in Twerton who have cleaned up litter and graffiti. “They are leading by example. “Helpers regularly clean up Twerton and a small minority are undoing their good work.

“I want to put out a challenge to the residents to pick up six bits of litter a week.

“That way, there won’t be litter around.”
